The Caribbean is a great place to take a vacation. Pretty much everyone that goes, always wants to go back. The variety of choices and types of resorts that you can go to actually becomes overwhelming, so much so that many people cannot make a decision as which one they would rather go to. When that happens, it is time to plan a Caribbean cruise vacation so you can enjoy as much as possible of this wonderful area of the world.

Caribbean cruise vacations come in many different varieties. The first thing you are going to have to figure out is how long you are going for. Cruises start in the 3 day range and can go for more than 8 days! The more ports you want so see, the longer vacation you need to book.

Cruises are a ton of fun, but you can also rack up lots of extra charges if you are not careful. Your food and non-alcoholic beverage will be included, but after that you are on your own. It is quite easy to rack up a 4 digit bar bill over the course of the week. You also need to take into account that any trip you make ashore is going to cost you money. If you eat there, you have to play. Knowing all that, you may decide to take on cheaper accommodations so that you can have a little extra cash to spend on your vacation.

If you are going as a couple, you pretty much can do anything you like. However, if the kids are coming along, your choices are going to be limited. You will need to find a cruise line that offers both on board activities and will have excursions that the children can enjoy. This will take some research on your part, but you will be happy that you did it.

Another way to save some cash on your cruise is by selecting a departure port that is close to your home. They leave out of New York Philadelphia, Miami, New Orleans and several other major cities. Try and search for the ones closest so you don't have to fly and you will reduce your costs my enough to cover that bar bill and some island fun!

The atmosphere on a Caribbean cruise vacation is a big part of picking the right cruise for you. If you are planning a romantic get away, you are not going to want a cruise that offers little variety in restaurants and hardly any night life. Maybe you want to dress formal on most nights or maybe you want to be casual. There is a cruise out there that will provide whatever type of atmosphere you are looking for, you just have to locate it. Certain companies have reputations for fun or formal, check them out and see what floats your boat.

Last but not least, you have to look at the ports of call and see what interests you and if you are going to have enough time to enjoy it. If you are a beach bum, hitting ports that have a beach that is horrible is just not going to do. On the other hand, if you are shopper and sight seer, you are going to need ports that allow you plenty of time to get off the ship, see the city and then get back in time to sail the high seas again.
